lovey pins

hi.

this post was supposed to go up eight days ago, but then my grandma was in the hospital and priorities changed. priorities. i haven't been much of a blogger these past couple of months and i'm okay that. i'm loving reading my old favorite blogs and my newest favorite. i've been pinning more and that's fun. it's not even as dangerous as i thought it'd be. my love and i went on vacation. it was warm. my mum and i went skiing. life has happened, and it's been mostly really, very good.

weekly rundown

i thought i might do a fill in the blank post again this week but Lauren and family are welcoming little miss Fern Winter. i wasn't so sure about the name Fern, not that it matters at all, but with the middle name Winter, well i just love them together. congrats!

just three pictures this week via instagram... linking up with Jeannett at Life Rearranged

so how was your week? i'm not sure where mine disappeared to, but i'm thankful it's the weekend! i need some sleep. i started reading The Hunger Games, and i've been reading it in to the late hours of the night. it's so hard to put down!

my boys

i'm debating whether i should invest some mulah in elise's blog 2.0 workshop. i got really geeked about the idea at first, but then i started to debate if learning wordpress design would actually improve my blogging direction (skills, regularity. "mission"). i need to keep considering this. i need to decide if i want to actually be a blogger or just enjoy blogs from an outside perspective.

packing up christmas last weekend.
just over 300 days until it's to unpack it all!

i am on pinterest. finally. i played around with it tuesday night. i'm excited to use it collect all the blog posts and beautiful images i've bookmarked over the last two and half years, or so, in a more visual way. and also revisiting those bookmarks to see what may be projects i'll actually do! do you pinterest? is pinterest a verb? have you found lots of images with no original source? in my first 10 minutes i found two.

smitten kitchen does it again, yummm!

a reaction from the oatmeal to SOPA/PIPA.
how cute would this little plant be for a vday gift. they have a hot stuff one too, hehe!
i love this dress, The Dainty Squid: what I wore; a modern little red.
two gems from meg this week.
pretty food.
you can always count on Bright.Bazaar for some great color!
BASIL. PESTO. HANDMADE. ah, kinfolk. you're delicious. it's far, far to long before we have any basil that looks like that that can be made into pesto. i've only ever made pesto in the food processor, so i'm kind of excited to try this.

MLK

thelittletiger:
apsies
King said in an interview that this photograph was taken as he tried to explain to his daughter Yolanda why she could not go to Funtown, a whites-only amusement park in Atlanta. King claims to have been tongue-tied when speaking to her. “One of the most painful experiences I have ever faced was to see her tears when I told her Funtown was closed to colored children, for I realized the first dark cloud of inferiority had floated into her little mental sky.”

a holiday evening

Last night I spent some of the evening writing holiday cards, sniffing this candle (my favorite scent!) and drinking egg nog.

dazzling / original

It was lovely.

 Lulu thought so too.

Do you send Christmas cards? Would you like to receive one? I'd love to do a swap!

blogging + Christmas music

Sometimes when I'm not quite sure what to blog about I find myself wandering through posts I started way back when. There are around 70 or so and some are over a year old. It's a little bit of nostalgia, and I like it. Sometimes I'm able to develop them into post, other times they are just a thought that does quite go where I expected.

Back in September 2010 it was about finding my blogging voice, whether that's sharing a bit of what's been going on in my life (that's not my life, obviously, but I found it inspiring) or making sure you see these fun videos! I thought to myself, just because I'm late to the {blogging} party doesn't mean I can't have a great time. And I am, I'm quite enjoying myself.

And without further ado... let's get some Christmas music up in here!

It's that time of year when the world falls in love, every song you hear seems to say Merry Christmas, may your new year's Dreams come true.

And this song of mine in three quater time wishes you and yours the same thing too.

deck the halls

soooo pretty.

such a mess!!!

Decorating for the holidays is such a delight with the boxes you get to open, the color on the tree, the decoration  - once they're in place.
Of course there is the time inbetween when there are boxes all over the house and it's doesn't seem like it will end.

We're takling the tree one box at a time, one night at time.

I can't wait to share the finished product.
It will be a winter wonderland.

holiday spirit

1.   Holiday spirit fills me up, I love it. Of course, to be cheesy, I try to carry a little bit with me the whole year through.

2.  The holidays are incomplete without  a tree, my funny family in a wrapping paper fight, Christmas tapas, the Polar Express.

3.  My favorite things to do around the holidays is

4.  A holiday tradition my family and I have is  WWSW, Williams Women Shopping Weekend, food Friday night shopping Saturday

5.  Holiday music is   some of my favorite, I love that I can sing along. I can't believe I haven't already listened to some today. Thanks to this playlist from skunkboy for remedying that. I try my hardest to only listen during this time of year, to keep it special.

6.  This year, I'll be spending the holidays  Christmas eve at my house! with momma's big family,

7.  Holiday wish list new gardening gloves, shopping spree at modcloth & anthropologie, a new metabolism so i can wear such cute clothes and still eat all the fantastic food i want, coffee, a new bedroom set, & gap socks.

it's beginning...

thankful for: my orange boots. [not being afraid of color, wearing five different, solid blocks of color today. maybe too much of good thing.]

yesterday my friend posted some christmas music lyrics on facebook, which interestingly caused a debate that it's to soon to even think about xmas vs. we're so full of holiday cheer we need an extra few days to celebrate. i'm definitely in the latter group. (i love that word, even though (or maybe because) i always go back and reread the latter statement to double check i understood correctly.)

i haven't always been this way. i remember about six years ago being disgusted that they couldn't even wait until the day after thanksgiving to start in on the christmas music. but this year i'm ready for the holiday season already! maybe it's because life moves faster now and i want time to enjoy my holiday decorations. maybe it's because i have my own home to decorate and love displaying my special seasonal items. maybe it's because i decorated for halloween in mid-september and i'm ready for something new. whatever the reason, the holiday spirit bug has bitten me. i'm excited. i won't pull out the decorations until after thanksgiving, but i can dream (and start on/gather little projects) to my hearts content

how beautiful is the christmas scene at lost river modern?
set up by the lovely couple behind something's hiding in here.
i want to fill my porch with these sparkly tinsel wreaths!
oh, hello friend has a great collection of advent calendars.
i love the variety of this one from sperobene
i love rachel's practical yet still special one too.
what would you tuck away in your advent calendar?

ah, grinning at my finger knitting success.
working on finding the original tutorial, via elsie's beautiful nook (and blog)

speaking of elsie you should probably follow these links too:
they'll surely put you in the holiday spirit!

kitties and decorations

Yesterday evening was sort of perfect! After a successful day of shopping, hanging out with the kitties, wrapping presents, listening to the holiday/New York   Home Companion, lights sparkling on the tree, and a bit of crafty finger knitting while watching LOST. All things that made me quite happy!

The kitties like sleeping under the love seat so there wasn't any snuggling during the show. They'll learn! Oh! as I typed that Sammy jumped up here! :
